“I consider myself an American by the grace of God and a South Carolinian by choice.  I can think of no other place in this country that I would rather live and raise my family.  I love the people, I love the land, I treasure our heritage and I take enormous pride in working for an organization that works to protect each of these things.  I always say that anyone can “do tourism” in Ft. Lauderdale or Las Vegas or Myrtle Beach.  Heritage tourism development/rural tourism development takes hard work.  No one on the staff of the Heritage Corridor will ever shy away from a hard day’s work and we share the passion of our constituents and partners to keep the places, traditions and stories of our great state alive and accessible.”

"Growing up immersed in the rich cultural history and pristine natural beauty of South Carolina started me on the path to a career in heritage tourism. Working in heritage tourism has afforded me an opportunity to share my passion for this state with those who visit us. South Carolina has so many different experiences to offer that promoting it is as much an amazing journey of discovery as it is a job."

“I am proud to be a part of the Heritage Corridor team; a team that is made up of the hardworking staff, partners who work tirelessly to move the program forward, and the many rural and municipal sites that make up our Discovery network.  Born and raised in rural South Carolina I find great joy in my position in assisting other people, places, communities and partners in understanding the potential of their product.  One of my favorite new places to visit, right in my back yard, is The Living History Park, North Augusta .  It was there that I first heard the quote, “Time well spent is time spent helping others.”  This is why I do what I do in Heritage Tourism…my time each day is rewarding because I, too, am helping to make a difference in South Carolina , my home!”

"Through working for the Heritage Corridor I have seen the consistent good we do in our rural communities. To see people’s joy and pride in their town blossom over the time we spend with them is very rewarding. I believe our organization, in addition to our funding and technical assistance, provides people with the hope it takes to recognize just how special their community is and the confidence to know they can improve it through heritage tourism development. To know we are making that difference is very exciting and keeps me motivated to do the best job I can for the people of this great state."

"The reason that I love Heritage Tourism is it gives me a chance to fulfill two of my passions exploring through traveling and history. I was a history major so heritage tourism gives me a chance to share my love of all things old. I give this history to people in a way that makes them interested; not just repeating facts but making the facts a story of people, everyday life, love, hate, and sometimes death. The other half of my job is planning events and tours. I am helping people discover areas and places in the state that are new to them. I have a great job that is never dull; in a different county each week, helping places to become more successful in rural tourism."

"There are a number of reasons why I love doing what I do. I love being able to convey an experience. Something memorable. Something that is meaningful. Of all the communities that we are involved in and all of the people I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with, it has left me with much respect and appreciation for where I came from. To hear all of the stories of years gone by, visiting all of the treasures of our area and creating and imposing all of those experiences to others, leaves me with great joy. It has been a remarkable journey thus far and I am anticipating the many years to come."

“I work in Heritage Tourism to educate people about their heritage and their communities. If we do not teach people about our past, our future will never evolve. Everything we do today is because of something that happened in history.  I want everyone to love their home towns whether they are small towns or big cities!”

“Working for the SCNHC has allowed me the opportunity to meet people from all tracks of life, different parts of the country, different ethnic backgrounds and different languages.  I enjoy meeting people that I have seen in our small town all of my life, yet never interacted with.  I enjoy my job and look forward to learning more about the Corridor and what I am capable of.  I’m taking on new responsibilities each week and that is a great challenge for me.”

"Heritage Tourism tells a story of the past that would otherwise be long forgotten.  I am proud and honored to help tell the story of Region 3, my hometown community.  For me there is no better feeling than to see a visitor leave excited to explore the uniqueness of South Carolina , the state I know and love."

"I love the people I work with and the peaceful beauty of the area surrounding the Discovery Center .  There is a sense of pride in knowing about the history and culture of the land that’s right in my own backyard!  That’s why it’s a pleasure for me to meet new and interesting people everyday while informing them of the many opportunities and activities that the Heritage Corridor provides.  I’m proud to be a part of the SC National Heritage Corridor in Region 3!"

"Being a part of the Corridor in Region 3 feels like home to me.  I spent countless holidays and summer vacations here in Blackville with my grandparents.  They were farmers, so I learned to love the beauty and bounty of the land and the quiet contentment and hospitality of this rural area.  It is with pleasure and pride that I can serve and share with visitors the past, present, and future opportunities that Region 3 and the entire Corridor has to offer!"
